Gtechniq
This video goes through the application of Gtechniq's Ceramic Base and Top coats. I am also preparing a section of the hull in the normal way with cutting compound and polish, so do check back as I will put comparison pictures on here throughout the next year or so.
The product I am using in this review is Gtechniq's specialised ceramic sealant for gelcoat. This is expensive to buy, but will save me masses of time and may even save me money in the long run by protecting the topsides which have been going chalky and require constant cutting and polishing to keep in good condition.
The Ceramic Base and Ceramic Top coat products are easy to apply, the technology has come from the automotive industry but Gtechniq have a range of products specifically designed for the marine environment. Ceramic top and Base are the most durable of this range but they are much more expensive than the other products in their range. From results so far though I would say the extra cost is worth it as initial results have been excellent for the sections I've treated with Ceramic Top and Base but not so good with the lesser products like Ceramic Fast Coat.
having said that I did use the Ceramic fast coat on internal bronze and brass items with excellent results, see Ep37 I have also used it on external bronze, check back for how that goes.
[ed] the ceramic fast coat did very well initially, delaying tarnishing significantly, but it then turned some of the bronze black! The bronze compression post was fine, but the portholes went very dark after about 4 months. They cleaned up easily though so it wasn't a disaster. As expected it didn't do too well on the bronze dorades outside.
The experiment with the Ceramic base and top coat went very well on the top section of hull that I used it on so I will be applying it to the rst of the top-sides this winter (2021-22)
